A leader’s most important product is the people
People development deserves the same methodical planning and execution that is applied to any product.
The first step of the process is to establish an inspiring purpose for the function and clearly articulate expectations for the competencies needed to deliver on that purpose. Then I work with each member of the team on a vision for their career and its roadmap as the first part of building the talent needed to succeed in the market. The next step is giving people the opportunities to safely test and learn the new skills that will advance them. The final part of talent development is continuous feedback that communicates a clear path forward.

“One of the things I appreciate most about working on the team is the culture that you helped impart – having a team inside of a giant company that behaves more like a start-up and a “work family” than a corporate machine.
You really helped create an environment where people are able to thrive and succeed.“
– Eric Newman, Software Engineer II

“You helped me realize who I was at work. You saw my potential and my abilities, helping to cultivate them.
You give me opportunities. You trust me. You respect me and what I have to say and welcome my challenges and feedback and give me a safe space where I can speak freely without fear. You solicit my help to be better and make things better for all of us at work.
Thank you for taking care of me and all of us, every single day.“
– Gianna Migliorisi, Sr. Director of Program Management

“I just wanted to let you know how much of an impact you have had on my life. I wouldn’t be here without you! Thank you for helping me live my dream.“
– Mandi Bergeron, Software Engineer I

“I have always admired how you silently have been a champion for women: Liz, Deanna, Michelle, and I. We all grew because you gave us a chance.“
– Jimena Velarde, Sr. Manager, Product Management

“People over profits, I am so glad I joined Brightspeed. Thank you Joe for reaffirming my decision. You are a treasure!!“
– Sree Dusi, Software Engineering Manager

“Joe Ambeault #Kudos You come up with fantastic ideas! #OutsideTheBoxThinker”
– Mozammel Hoque, Software Engineering Manager

“I would like to express my appreciation to this leader for introducing the [job] leveling guide. It has helped me to better understand and document the capabilities that I am looking for within my team, and myself. It has put a lot of clarity and structure into something that I have heard employees requesting for a long time – which is what are the expectations of me in my role – in a way that is easy to understand and reference. Thank you.“
– Anonymous, Leadership Practices Inventory 360 feedback

“Throughout my career, there have been a few unique individuals that take on ‘hero’ status in my eyes.
You were certainly one of those heroes to me. What inspired this perception for me was not only in the actions of leadership and mannerisms you took, though they by themselves would have been more than enough, but also through the team you have working for you.
Thank you for helping to build not only this amazing company but inspiring the rest of us to do our best as well.“
– Scott Radio, Program Manager III
The credit goes to the teams
Together we identified and solved customer problems to create products that achieved their business goals while challenging and supporting each other to continuously improve ourselves.
I am grateful to have had the opportunity to collaborate with so many hard-working, smart people that helped me learn as we built together.
